In collaboration with Dr Ying Kai Chan and Dr George Church at Harvard University, we investigated how modulation of the TLR9 pathway can delay and in some cases prevent immune responses to the vectors. This can lead to more effective production of the desired proteins and a reduced immune cell infiltration. There is increasing recognition of immune responses to AAV vectors and applying new imaging methods may allow us to better understand their application.
Rose joined the Chu lab in October 2023 as a PhD student, to work on new ways of understanding immune responses to ocular gene therapy. She is co-supervised by Prof Andrew Dick.
We are grateful to Moorfields Eye Charity for funding this work and the article they wrote on Rose's project can be seen here.
